From PAUL FARROW at 2006-07-05 11:07:39 : dEAR DAVID, Great website; interesting old pics of various raod related issues, eg old roads/signs. I wonder if you can answer a question that's always bugged me: do you happen to know why only a short section of A41(M) motorway was opened around Tring? Thanks PAUL FARROW
From David Brown at 2006-10-07 22:06:50 : Hi Paul, A quick search of the A41(M) page on "Pathetic Motorways" reveals the answer, thanks to Robert Wooley. "I used to work for Hertfordshire CC in the Environment Dept. The A41(M) was despecialised in the late 1980s when it became clear that it woudn't join up with other motorways and authority was given for the Berkhamstead By-pass. Also, the signs were in need of replacement so the County Council considered that replacement with green all-purpose road signs would make more sense. Hence the road was despecialised." http://pathetic.org.uk/motorways/a41m.shtml
